Every brand needs a name. Most pick something that sounds cool and call it a day. We didn’t want that. We wanted a word that meant something — something that captured how we think about life, design, and the clothes you wear every day.
What does STRAUM mean?
Straum is an Old Norse word meaning current, stream, flow. It’s the force that moves water through a river — not violent, not still, but constantly in motion. Purposeful and quiet.
We found it while researching Nordic and Icelandic languages, and the moment we read the definition, it clicked. That’s the feeling we wanted our clothes to carry: movement. Forward motion. The idea that life is a current, and the best thing you can do is stay in it.
Stay in motion and never let go
That’s not just a tagline we put on the website. It’s the design philosophy behind every piece we make. A STRAUM t-shirt should move with you — to work, to the gym, to a late dinner, to a hike. It shouldn’t demand attention. It should feel like a second skin that happens to look clean.
The STRAUM Original was the first expression of that idea: no loud graphics, no forced statement. Just a well-made tee in organic cotton with a design that speaks through restraint.
